Bespoke Dog Grooming and Spa Services

A note from Louise: Coronavirus Disease (Covid 19). Sootypaws Salon now closed form 20-3-20

The health and safety of the salons clients, their families and their pets is paramount. Despite putting in place strict hygiene protocols, Public Health England’s strong advice on social restriction to support our NHS and help slow the disease must be followed and to support this, the salon is now closed to remove any pressure on my clients to keep appointments and also to protect our local village community.

I appreciate that everyone will be concerned about how to manage their dogs coats at home for an indefinite period of time and the impact this may have on the comfort and health of their dogs well-being, especially as we are moving into warmer weather. To help try and reduce this concern and support you as much as I can through this period, I am going to:

  • Guarantee for existing clients that all pre-booked appointments to Christmas will be left in the diary so that these can be switched back on quickly when it is safe to re-open the salon. (These may need adjusting at that time as the doodle coats will need urgent attention and I would ask that all non-doodle clients help support this if there appointment falls immediately at the time of opening as you will be directly contributing to a dogs well-being).
  • Coat maintenance guidance can be found on the grooming pages and I will add new reference site content to help keep on top of the basics eg: clear eyes/paws, small mats and nails.
  • Post guidance on which shampoo to use so as not to set of skin irritations as home bathing will now be more necessary.
  • The Tick and flea season has just started and so do keep on top of treatments, look for ticks daily and have a tick remover in the house and know how to use this safely. You can also purchase natural preventative remedies from www.vitacanis.co.uk to help stop ticks and fleas landing on your dog’s coat in the first instance to provide another natural barrier. -Please see the salons ‘Well-being’ page which provides some basic canine first aid guidance for accidents at home and things to look out for on a daily / weekly basis. If there are any changes in you dogs physical health e.g. new lumps, bumps, limps, cuts, sore paws, puncture wounds, smelly ears, runny eyes, persistent licking, scratching, stained fur, scooting, discharge from anywhere which is does not clear up, please contact your vet for further guidance. These are things that would me noted in your normal groom health check and you will now need to do this.
  • If you do get sick and your dog needs to be looked after by someone else whilst you recover, consider putting together a ‘How to care for my pet manual’ as looking after someone’s pet can be daunting, especially if elderly and on medication.
  • Your pet will be noticing any understandably raised stress levels in its owner and so make sure you try and maintain your dogs normal routines as much as possible and play time with them is now even more important to assure them that you are ok and provide some assurance. Patchouli and Lavender, Pet Remedy sprays and plug-ins are very good stress relievers for both you and your dog!

On a final note from myself, please do not take any unnecessary risks and if you suspect, or are feeling unwell, or that your dog is showing signs of illness, please follow the guidelines in place at that time. Thank you all for your support in helping reduce the spread of this horrible virus and I hope that this necessary action helps contribute to all the other efforts being made by everyone.

Stay well and I look forward to meeting you and your pet again soon. Lou
